Brandon Figueroa Looks Forward to a Future Rematch with Stephen Fulton

Former WBC super bantamweight champion Brandon “The Heartbreaker” Figueroa (23-1-1, 18KO) is understanding of why unified champion Stephen Fulton turned down the rematch.

In November 2021, The Heartbreaker suffered his first career defeat at the hands of the unified champion via majority decision. Several boxing enthusiasts and fans felt he should have gotten a win that night. Given that their first contest was an all-out war from the first bell, fans were excited to hear Figueroa was about to get the rematch he had wanted. However, Fulton later decided to forgo the rematch for a showdown with former undisputed bantamweight champion Naoya Inoue.

FIGUEROA SEES THE REMATCH HAPPENING IN THE FUTURE

The 26-year-old Texan spoke at a press conference for his upcoming showdown with former WBC featherweight champion Mark Magsayo. The Heartbreaker expressed disappointment in having Fulton turn away from the rematch.

“I really wanted that rematch, but I feel like it will happen in the future. It’s just a matter of time. I know that Inoue is a really, really attractive fight for him (Fulton).”

“It was a great opportunity for us to make that happen and really, really give the fight fans what they wanted . . . Yeah I was a little bummed out, but I understand.”

When the news broke of his upcoming featherweight clash with Magsayo, boxing fans happily accepted this as a fine replacement fight.
