Callum Smith finds his way back to the win column with a devastating knockout!

When he was last in the ring, UK pugilist Callum “Mundo” Smith (28-1, 20 KO’s) endured a difficult time. The super middleweight fighter had received the golden ticket to face boxing cash cow Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and naturally he jumped at the opportunity. Once trapped within the straps with Canelo, Smith was intimidated, savagely beaten to the body, and thoroughly outclassed by the redhead. It was a jarring, and no doubt traumatic, fall from the grace of his former world championship days.

Here against Lenin Castillo (21-4-1, 16 KO’s) however, Mundo was able to find his stride anew. In just two quick rounds Smith outmaneuvered and then obliterated the Dominican to claim a mildly scary knockout. Even after his manhandling by Alvarez, Smith maintains favorable #4 (WBA) and #4 (WBC) standings at super middleweight. Yet, it should be noted that Mundo was performing as a light heavyweight for the first time in his career. We will have to see what weight class the UK fighter will compete in next.

QUICK BRUTAL NIGHT

Smith immediately took the fight to Castillo and had great success setting his right-hand up behind his reliable jab. Mundo was also able to wrap several looping right hooks around Castillo’s guard to hit his chin. Then, at the top of the second round, Mundo dropped the Dominican with a wide brutal right hook. Castillo went down but was stiff as a prison bedframe and began shaking like someone wouldn’t release a taser trigger. After a number of ominous minutes on the canvas, Lenin Castillo was finally able to show signs of consciousness and movement. Yet, it didn’t appear that he left the ring on his feet.
