Calvin Ford Hopes Santa Cruz Brings out the best in Tank

On October 31, regular WBA world lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis (23-0, 22 KO’s) will make his pay-per-view debut. Outside of this economic milestone, many believe that he will also be facing his stiffest competition to date in WBA super world super featherweight champion Leo “El Terremoto” Santa Cruz (37-1-1, KO’s).

Even with Cruz moving up in weight to make the fight happen, he is Davis’ most accomplished, in-prime, foe to date. And this is exactly what Tank’s chief second, Calvin Ford, is looking forward to. By his estimation, Davis traditionally fights to the level of his competition. Therefore, he is hoping that El Terremoto does present a formidable in-ring challenge so that the world can see the most polished version of Tank possible. He revealed this desire while conducting a brief interview with Showtime Sports.

“He [Cruz] says he is going to give Gervonta his first loss and I like that energy! I love that energy because I know you going to bring what I am really looking for. Tank ain’t at his best right now, I’m waiting for that fighter to bring the best up.”

“When he [Tank] do what I need him to do, and shut all them [unintelligible] up, the ones calling him out, then his answer is okay, and then he gets his just props. Because he ain’t getting his just props right now.”

Only time will tell if Davis does get his just due in the eyes of Ford, but first he must take care of business on October 31. Yet, one thing that is certain, the high-volume punching Santa Cruz will not be coming to the ring to lay down. So, it will be extremely fun to see how this prizefight plays out in the ring!
