Conor Wallace On Track for a Light Heavyweight Title Fight
Australian Conor Wallace (14-1, 10 KOs) has passed what was a critical test in his career. His next goal is to take the next step and fight for the world light heavyweight title.
On August 28, at the ICC Sydney Theatre in Sydney, Australia, Wallace captured a split-decision victory over Jerome Pampellone in a world title eliminator to determine the number two world ranking by the IBF. In the early rounds, Pampellone applied constant pressure. In round four, Wallace began to adjust by cranking up the jab and establishing distance to land shots. The Aussie was in control from the midway point of the fight until the final rounds.
READY FOR WORLD LEVEL
After the fight, Wallace was ecstatic over the win. During the post-fight interview with the boxing press, the 28-year-old expressed excitement about the possibilities down the road.
“We knew what we had to do, and we done it and here, IBF number two. The big boys are coming now, and I’m going to be ready.”
Wallace would love to fight the winner of the upcoming October unification showdown between champions Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol. Instead, he’ll likely face the IBF number-one ranked light heavyweight, Michael Eifert, in a potential final world title eliminator. Eifert became the number one contender with a unanimous decision victory over Jean Pascal in March 2023. Whatever is in store, Wallace believes he’s ready to face the biggest and best the division has to offer.
