Daniel Dubois Sees Filip Hrgovic as Just Another Day in the Office
Over the past three and a half years or so, heavyweight contender “Dynamite” Daniel Dubois (20-2, 19 KO’s) has had a rough road in boxing. Yet, rather than allow these fractious times to dissolve his will to climb to the top of the division, he’s doubled done on bouncing back. This is precisely why his confidence is so high riding into his June showdown with Filip “El Animal” Hrgavic (17-0, 14 KO’s). Marching into this critical contest, Dubois is composed and ready to show his best.
While speaking with IFL TV, Dynamite explored his mindset on this matter.
“I’m expecting another fighter – who is he? He is another fighter to me; Right now that’s just how I look at him and I don’t rate or none of that. I’m just seeing him as another fighter and I got to go through him – simple as that.”
THE LONG ROAD HOME
The hard times for Dubois began when he first lost to Joe Joyce back on November 28, 2020. Four wins and almost three years later, Dynamite would fizzle out and be stopped by now-undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk. Worse than losing though, following those duels, the lasting impression on many fight fans was that Dubois quit. Truthfully speaking, he has yet to shed that negative label.
In his last prizefight, the #3 (WBA), #4 (IBF), #6 (WBC) and #7(WBO) ranked Dubois, stopped notorious drug cheat Jarrell Miller in tenth and final round. This win, the first since his loss to Usyk, has put the wind back in Dubois’ sails. Even better, although potentially distracting is the knowledge that he may have a dance date with two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, if he wins in style on June 1.
“That’s the prize, that’s what’s on the line. So, it’s massive, its a lot on the line! My coach is ready, my promoter Frank Warren, he’s up for it, he wants to make that fight. So I need to win and I need to perform well.”
With his roughed over reputation and huge fight hanging in the balance, it’s clear that Dynamite must have the fight of his life when in against Hrgovic. So, let’s see if public perception or personal self-belief reigns supreme on fight night.
