Gervonta Davis Talks Yuriorkis Gamboa and Leo Santa Cruz
The first official press conference was held between Gervonta “Tank” Davis (22-0, 21 KO’s) and Yuriorkis “El Ciclon de Guantanamo” Gamboa (30-2, 18 KO’s) for their upcoming December 28 prizefight. Hanging in the balance will be the vacant WBA regular lightweight title.
An overwhelming portion of the boxing community would like to see Davis step up his level of competition. In that direction, the bout with Gamboa is a good one. Although, the leading theory is not only will Tank win, he will prevail by way of stoppage.
CORDIAL PRESS CONFERENCE
Throughout the presser, both men and their teams were rather low-key and respectful of the opposing team. For his part, Gamboa sat on stage quietly while maintaining a rather monotone disposition. Davis was a bit more animated. Tank smiled a lot more that his Cuban foe and openly cooed and cuddled with his one year old daughter.
Even though the atmosphere was friendly, this does not mean that there was no tough talking being done. When asked by FightHype about how he thought his dust-up with Gamboa would play out, Tank expressed his belief that he would win. Not only did he say that he would win, he added that Gamboa would suffer some form of knockout.
“You should expect an action-packed fight. The fans win again! I’m going to give it my all. He [Gamboa] is going to give his all. Like I said he can land on his back or his face.”
POTENTIAL FUTURE FISTICUFFS
Before Davis could get off stage, he was questioned about his feelings toward Leo “El Terremoto” Santa Cruz (37-1-1, 19 KO’s). Santa Cruz is a former tow-time featherweight champion who recently moved up to junior lightweight; the division just below Tank.
Following his November 23 victory over Miguel Flores, in which he became the WBA super world junior lightweight champion, Cruz called out Davis.
When questioned about the call-out, Davis responded with supreme nonchalance. He went the political route by saying he was not overlooking Gamboa. However, provided he is victorious, he is willing to mix it up with Santa Cruz.
“We definitely not looking past Gamboa but, you know, if he [Santa Cruz] wants to chew off more than he can eat then let’s do it! We under the same umbrella so it won’t be hard to make.”
3kingsboxing will certainly stay abreast of the upcoming Davis v Gamboa bout as well as any future friction between Davis and Santa Cruz.
