Devin Haney Catches A Felony Gun Charge!
3Kingsboxing.com has learned that undisputed world lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (30-0, 15 KOs) was arrested early this morning in Hollywood, California. According to TMZ Sports, shortly after leaving the Catch LA, a local restaurant in Los Angeles, California, local authorities pulled over the car Haney was riding in as a passenger due to a prohibited lane change and failing to signal.
TROUBLE FOR THE CHAMPION
After inspecting the vehicle, cops found a semi-automatic gun in the driver’s seat. While Haney was the passenger, he is the registered owner of the weapon.
With Haney being the owner of the gun, he was taken into custody and charged with felony possession of a concealed weapon. Haney was released from jail early this morning on a $35,000 bail. The lightweight champion has an August 6 court hearing on his arrest.
This is the first ever sign of trouble outside the ring for the native of San Francisco, California. His last outing was a unanimous decision victory against Vasyl Lomachenko on May 20 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
A career-long lightweight, many in the boxing community expect Haney to move up to the junior welterweight division. Word on the street is that he is in negotiations to fight WBC 140-pound champion Regis Prograis this fall. But over the last twenty-four hours, The Dream has made news for a series of back-and-forth insults with reigning WBO junior welterweight titleholder Teofimo Lopez.
