Devin Haney Wants Smoke with All Top Guys in the Lightweight Division
One of the greater accomplishments that a fighter can achieve is establishing themselves as the undisputed champion of their division. This is a self-imposed mission that WBC lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (27-0, 15 KO’s) placed on his own shoulders some time ago. Despite assigning himself this goal, Haney had to navigate a long, unproductive period of not getting the fights that he wanted. This is no longer the case now that he will face WBA Super, IBF and WBO 135-pound champion “Ferocious” George Kambosos (20-0, 10 KO’s) on June 5 for undisputed.
To make the fight a reality, Haney had to agree to duel Kambosos in the unified champion’s Australian backyard. Even if The Dream prevails in the bout, he would have to stage the rematch in Australia as well. While some may find this outrageous, Team Haney was all too eager to sign on the dotted line. This is due to Haney’s supreme belief in his own skill set.
“I know that I am the better fighter all around, I have more speed, I have more power, I have better ring IQ. I’m the bigger, stronger fighter; there is nothing he can do to beat me. I look forward to showcasing that on June 5.”

This immense self-belief should not be all that surprising considering the amount of time that the native Californian has been pursuing the more meaningful bouts. In fact, to be questioned on the matter somewhat pricked the ire of the young champion.
“I’m not ducking or dodging nobody, I’ve been calling for these fights for a while now. It’s crazy for you to even question if I am willing to fight these top of guys because, how, when I have been calling for these guys! I’m going to Australia, I bit the bullet where all the attributes was against me as far as negotiations wise but I trust in my skills I trust in my talent. So of course I’m not ducking or dodging nobody. I’ll fight anybody, anywhere, any time!”
In his last bout, Haney easily outpointed Joseph Diaz to secure a fairly wide unanimous points victory. Prior to that, The Dream defeated veteran Jorge Linares in what was his biggest fight at that time. Obviously, if he topples Kambosos then that fight will become the new pinnacle of his career. So, let’s see if Haney can rise to the occasion or if Kambosos can defend his titles in style.
