Eddie Hearn Could Prevent Conor Benn Title Shot Opportunities

Welterweight contender Conor “The Destroyer” Benn has been put out of the title picture by WBC champion Ryan Garcia and Eddie Hearn could play a key role in keeping it that way. The Matchroom Boxing chairman may have a heavier hand in the welterweight division’s championship matchmaking than Benn foresaw.

It’s no secret that Benn wants to face Garcia for the title. In fact, the WBC organization placed him in the number one contender’s spot in December 2025. Since then, he has dominated the news cycle after betraying his long-time promoter, Hearn.

After watching Garcia win the WBC title, The Destroyer was snubbed by the champion for a big fight against WBO 140-pound champion Shakur “Fearless” Stevenson. Furthermore, his signing with Zuffa Boxing, which aims to operate outside of the sanctioning bodies, can make things even more challenging.

BENN MAY NOT GET A TITLE SHOT THIS YEAR

Although Benn holds the top spot, the WBC could put a hold on ordering the mandatory fight. He can try to fight IBF champion Lewis Crocker, who is promoted by his former boss. However, Hearn may choose to make a unification showdown with WBO champion Devin Haney.

This is something that Team Crocker has expressed wanting, in the past. So, what is the next play for Benn? He can try to fight WBA champion Rolando Romero. That match-up is highly unlikely since the WBA ordered Romero to face another one of Hearn’s fighters in Shakhram Giyasov.

If events play out in this fashion, then Benn may not fight for a title in 2026. This would be sweet revenge for Hearn as karma looks to come back to bite The Destroyer in a hard way.
