Stephen Espinoza Expresses Support for Broner and BLK Prime Deal

One of boxing’s biggest draws and most polarizing fighters, Adrien “The Problem” Broner (34-4-1, 24KOs), made the headlines earlier this week when he announced his departure from PBC and his new alignment with upstart promotional company BLK Prime.

The Cincinnati, Ohio native has had his fair share of ups and downs throughout his career. However, he’s managed to become a four-division world champion and one of the most marketable fighters over the last decade. Known for his outspoken personality, Broner has clashed with many who, at one point or another, have helped guide him to where he is today. One of those people includes the president of Showtime Sports, Stephen Espinoza.

For the most part, the two men have had a great relationship. Although, in July, to promote his then-scheduled fight with former WBC 135-pound champion Omar Figueroa, The Problem chastised both, Espinoza and Haymon, for having to hold a virtual press conference. Ultimately, he would apologize for his outburst.

NO HARD FEELINGS

One of Broner’s biggest backers, Stephen Espinoza, gave his thoughts on Broner’s decision to leave, as well as possibly working with him again down the line.

“I like Adrien, I think he has a good heart. I think he’s been a source of entertainment for people in the sport for a long time. Not to mention, he’s a really skilled guy and he’s got an opportunity right now that he feels he should pursue. And it certainly doesn’t begrudge things.

A fighter has a short window of a career. If someone is offering good money, I certainly wouldn’t want to stand in the way of that. Look, I wish him well over there. The doors open. We may be back together in the future. We’ve had some really interesting fights with him. He’s one of my favorite people in the sport and I’m going to support him wherever he goes. “

With Espinoza publicly leaving the door open for a return to Showtime for Broner, it gives him more leverage if he’s able to have success with BLK Prime.
