Chris Eubank vs Matt Korobov set For December!

British Super Middleweight Chris Eubank Jr is making his United States debut on December 7. He will face Matt Korobov at Barclays for the WBA interim Middleweight title. The bout will air live via Showtime Championship Boxing on the undercard of Jermall Charlo’s WBC Middleweight title defense against Dennis Hogan.

Chris Eubank, Jr. (28-2, 21 KO’s)

Having campaigned at Middleweight earlier in his career, the 29-year-old from Brighton, England is moving back down to the 160-pound division to face Korobov.

Coming off of a career best win over former IBF Super Middleweight champion James DeGale on February 23, Eubank relishes the opportunity to not only fight in the US, but also make his mark in the Middleweight division.

“I’m ready to take the United States and the middleweight division by storm. I’m excited to come down to 160 pounds where I naturally belong, and I don’t see anybody being able to touch me at this weight class.

America is where I learned how to fight as an amateur in Las Vegas and 13 years later, I’m finally going to make my US professional debut. I can’t wait to show the fans in the US that I’m the best middleweight in the world.”

Matt Korobov (28-2-1, 14 KO’s)

The 36-year old Russian who now resides in St. Petersburg, Florida views this fight as redemption for past failures. Still bitter over a December 2018 hard fought decision loss to Jermall Charlo, the veteran is driven to not let this moment slip through his fingers.

“I am more motivated for this fight than any other so far in my career. Against Jermall Charlo, I didn’t get the decision. In my mind, I won that fight at Barclays Center. This time around, I will leave no doubt against Eubank. This opportunity gives me a chance to right a wrong. Fans will see the best Matt Korobov on December 7.”

On paper, this intriguing clash of styles and the fight could go either way. For both men, it’s not only an occasion to win a world title. The winner would put themselves in position to land bigger fights in the future against the elite fighters in the division, such as Charlo, Gennady Golovkin and Demetrius Andrade.

Already a prominent name in the UK, Chris Eubank Jr signed a three-fight deal with PBC in February 2019. He envisions himself as a star in the sport, and looks at a win over Korobov as the first step to becoming a known quantity in the US as well.
