Danny Garcia opens up about being more vocal

As he prepares for his November 21 title shot against unified welterweight champion Errol “The Truth” Spence (26-0, 21KOs), former two-division world champion Danny “Swift” Garcia (36-2, 21KOs) talked with Showtime Boxing host Brain Custer on his The Last Stand Podcast.

Garcia is typically a quiet guy who lets his father and trainer Angel Garcia do the trash talking for him. However, he opened up about becoming more vocal as of late.

“Well they took the microphone away from my pops. They banned him, he’s banned, he can’t do nothing no more. No press conferences, nothing. You know it was getting too real. You know people don’t like hearing the real stuff, you feel me? So people want you to say ‘everything is going to be okay’. You know the world is fine, people don’t want to hear the truth and Angel Garcia is telling you the truth.

So you know I’ve always been a funny person, always had that personality, but I just felt like boxing took it away from me. You know what I’m saying, because it’s such a serious sport. So I just became like a real serious person, you know it’s a lot of pressure. It’s a lot of things you go through mentally, so it’s not a game, so I just feel like that stripped me of my personality and made me serious. And made me like a killer all the time…but I’m more comfortable now. I’m more happy with myself, I love myself. Like I said before, I fell in love with everything again. I’m just having fun with this at this point.”

NEW MAN ON THE MICROPHONE

Angel Garcia who’s used to running the trash talking department for his son, has been reeled in due to multiple controversial comments. Which has now put the onus on Danny to help drum up interest in his upcoming fight.

Although he’s not the smoothest on the microphone, Swift’s new willingness to take the lead should make for an interesting build up with Spence. Both men are extremely confident. Garcia knows that they have to sell this fight to the buying public considering everything that’s going on with COVID-19. More interest will equate into more PPV buys, which will result into more money for himself and Spence.
