Danny Garcia Hopes to Claim Undisputed from Jermell Charlo at 154 and Retire
As Danny “Swift” Garcia (36-3, 21KOs) enters the junior middleweight division, he does so with one guy in mind; that is undisputed champion Jermell “Iron Man” Charlo (35-1-1, 19KOs). The two-division champion is on record stating he feels he’s better than every fighter at 154, including Iron Man. However, he must pass his first test on July 30 against Jose Benavidez Jr.
If Garcia is able to secure a fight with Charlo in 2023 and claim his undisputed crown, Swift is prepared to walk away from the sport that made him a household name, according to his statements in an interview with Fight Hub TV.
“I’m sailing off into the sunset! There’s nothing else to do after that. Yeah, that’s the goal, that’s the dream. We’re going to walk away healthy and as a champion.”
To be honest, if those things happen, it makes sense for Garcia to hang up his gloves. It’s clear that his goal is to become a three-division champion. With Charlo holding all the belts, it’s the only fight that makes sense for him. On top of that, to become an undisputed champion would forever etch his name in the history books of boxing.
