Ryan Garcia Willing to Fight without Fans

Throughout his time rising up the lightweight division, rivals have consistently poked fun at Ryan “KingRy” Garcia’s (20-0, 17 KO’s) immense social media following. With the insinuation being that he is not so much a real fighter, but rather some marketing hype job.

Thus far however, Garcia has passed every professional in-ring test with flying colors. In fact, during his last prizefight, KingRy clipped Francisco Fonseca with a sensational first-round knockout.

Beyond his online following and on-going self-promotion, Garcia has legitimately worked himself up rather high in several of the sanctioning body’s rankings. At the current moment, he is the #2 WBA, #3 WBC and #2 WBO lightweight in the world. So, naturally it would be interesting to see how the popular fighter, with the favorable rankings, feels about fighting with no fans in the house.

LET’S ROCK & ROLL!

Unsurprisingly, in a recent session going live on his InstaGram account, the Golden Boy fighter took the time to express his standpoint on competing without a cheering crowd.

“Yes of course I am willing to fight [without] fans. I just love boxing, I love the sport! I love the whole feeling of it so I wouldn’t. It wouldn’t make me not want to fight. I just love boxing, so of course.”

HUMBLE, NOT BROKEN

Certainly the thrill of the crowd and adulation of the fans is its own seductive elixir. However, those are not the elements of the sport that truly keep KingRy propelling forward. Apparently, rather than hear the deafening cries of the fans, Garcia would prefer the chilling imposed silence of his critics.

“One of my motivations is proving all these dudes wrong, probably my biggest motivation.”

Thankfully, due to his thick skin and ample practice, KingRy is used to sidestepping the venomous critics of his criticizers. Furthermore, Ryan Garcia has no future plans on shying away from his haters or shutting his mouth.

“For me, staying humble is knowing that no matter how far ahead you get, you’re not nothing. No matter what I have, no matter all this stuff I have, I am going to work and I am going to continue to work like I have nothing, you understand what I am saying? That is staying humble and representing that God comes before anything.”

“But in the sport of boxing, calling people out, that is part of the game. That’s not not being humble, you need to understand that. Taking care of your family, that’s staying humble and that’s what I do…God got me, don’t worry, God got me. He is going to shape me into the person I am going to be. But in no regards is staying humble, staying quiet. That ain’t staying humble!”
