Murat Gassiev Makes his Comeback with a KO Victory Over Carlouse Welch!
Former IBF Cruiserweight champion Murat “Iron” Gassiev (29-1, 22KOs) made his 2022 ring debut, quickly disposing of the overmatched Carlouse Welch (23-3-1, 18KOs) in one round! This was his first fight since stopping Michael Wallisch last July.
NO SWEAT BROKEN!
Gassiev was literally under no threat from Welch, who offered nothing for the former champion other than a few timid, lazy jabs. Iron himself would throw his left jab, as it was clear he was setting up Welch for a monster closing shot! At 1:49 in round one, a beautiful overhand right by Gassiev sent Welch down. Clearly hurt, the overmatched opponent rose to his feet, barely beating the count. However, he decided that was all the power he wanted to taste and told the ref he couldn’t continue.
WHERE DOES GASSIEV GO FROM HERE?
The victory will have no bearing on Gassiev’s chances of being ranked by any sanctioning body organization. However, the fact that he was finally able to get back in the ring, albeit for an extremely short fight, should bode well for his confidence moving forward. He has battled injuries since 2018, which has affected his ability to fight consistently.
One of the more skilled fighters in the upper weight divisions, it’ll be interesting to see just where he fits in, in a crowded heavyweight division.
