Claressa Shields vs Mikaela Mayer Middleweight Clash Possible!
Multi-divisional champion Mikaela Mayer is willing to go up to middleweight if it means getting a fight with three-divisional undisputed champion Claressa Shields. This is the super fight that women’s boxing needs for 2026.
With arch-rival Shadasia Green’s career likely over after suffering a brain bleed in defeat to Lani Daniels, Shields is in need of a new dance partner. During a live feed on social media, the decorated bruiser stated she was going to go to middleweight.
Middleweight doesn’t have any recognized names in the division at the moment. Furthermore, Shields will need to grab a title first before the talks can begin for a fight with Mayer. So, boxing fans shouldn’t be surprised when the Detroit native announces a fight with either of unified champions Kaye Scott and Desley Robinson.
MAYER FINE WITH MOVING UP
Mayer is a unified champion in the junior middleweight division. While speaking with Brian Custer of the Last Stand, the Californian expressed that going to middleweight won’t be a problem.
“It’s a very possible fight. I’ve never been hard to make fights with. I don’t say one thing and do another; I’m here for it. The biggest issue right now is her (Shields) making her way down to 160. So, when she does that, let’s go.”
Mayer has proven that she is not afraid to move around to make a big fight. Mayer versus Shields has the potential of being a super fight. They are both very accomplished in the sport, former Olympic roommates and long-time friends. This fight already has the makings of a financial success.
