Damian Sosa Takes Unanimous Decision Win Over Freudis Rojas
In his latest tour of duty, super welterweight boxer Damian “Samurai” Sosa (27-3, 13 KO’s) upset Freudis Rojas (15-1, 11 KO’s) by way of unanimous decision. Sosa toppled the #9 (IBF) ranked fighter with a score of 96-93 on all three cards. This significant win came just two short battles following his September 27, 2024, unanimous decision loss to current unified 154-pound champion Xander Zayas.
With Rojas’ scalp successfully collected, it will be interesting to see what is next for Sosa. Heading into this duel with Samurai, Rojas likely was thinking about pursuing duels with #5 (IBF) Bakhram Murtazaliev (23-1, 17 KO’s) and #8 Tim Tszyu. Despite coming off a January 31 majority decision loss to Josh Kelly, Murtazaliev has retained his standing. Perhaps a scrap against the fan-friendly style of Sosa may be just what the doctor ordered.
As for Tim Tszyu, he is openly planning to stage a mid-summer showdown with former welterweight kingpin Errol Spence Jr. Realistically speaking though, regardless of who prevails in the Spence vs Tszyu dustup, neither is likely to look anywhere near Sosa’s direction. This is wholly due to his lack of overall marquee value.
Also, just because Sosa defeated Rojas, this does not mean that he will automatically absorb his ranking and seat at the table. Therefore, for the time being, we will have to wait and see what is next for Damian Sosa following this exciting win.
