Ginjiro Shigeoka Guarantees Victory in Daniel Valladares Rematch
On October 7, Japanese minimumweight Ginjiro Shigeoka (9-0, 7 KOs) gets a second chance to fight for a world title. He will square off against the reigning IBF champion, Daniel Valladares (26-3-1, 15 KOs), at the Ota-City General Gymnasium in Tokyo, Japan. Shigeoka plans to make the most of this opportunity and is positive in the belief that he will become the new world champion.
His first world title attempt came against Valldares in January 2023. The left-hander from Japan got off to an excellent start and seemed on his way to victory. But the bout was ultimately ruled a no-contest when the defending champion couldn’t continue following an accidental headbutt in round three.
Though disappointed in the outcome of that encounter, Shigeoka picked himself up and got back into action, scoring a ninth-round stoppage over former minimumweight Rene Cuatro in April 2023 to become the IBF Interim champion.
PLANNING TO LEAVE NO DOUBTS
With the rematch against Valladares just days away, Shigeoka spoke with Ring Magazine and said that this time around, he wants to win in dominating fashion.
(Translated from Japanese) “I am grateful that we will have a rematch. I am going to win 100 percent, and I will adapt to any situation and show the difference with my ability.
I think he’s a skilled boxer. He has a typical Mexican boxing style, and also I think he’s an experienced boxer.”
The challenger has received much attention and coverage in his home country of Japan. Featured in the 3kingsboxing.com Prospect Watch series, the expectation is the 23-year-old has the potential to be a dominant fighter in the lower-weight division. Shigeoka hopes to begin fulfilling those expectations by taking care of business against Valladares.
