Devin Haney Says a Fight With Shakur Stevenson is Not Currently on the Table

Things are starting to heat up in the lightweight division as two-divisional champion Shakur “Fearless” Stevenson (20-0, 10KO) continues to hound undisputed champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (30-0, 15KO) for a fight.

Boxing is waiting to see what is Haney’s next move following the end of his contractual obligations to Top Rank. He could move up to the junior welterweight division or remain at lightweight with a possible showdown against Stevenson next.

A video surfaced of Stevenson sending a sign over to The Dream demanding he sign a contract. His message set off an intense back and forth on social media between the two rivals.

These guys were far from done. In a since-deleted tweet, Haney claimed that, in a meeting with CEO Bob Arum of Top Rank, a fight with Fearless was never on the table. Stevenson wasn’t going to let that go unanswered and responded by maintaining his focus is fighting for the undisputed status.

Fans should not be surprised at how quickly things escalated with the two fighters. Following Haney’s narrow unanimous decision victory over Vasyl Lomachenko on May 20, Stevenson made it clear the undisputed champion was not on his level.

The reality is this fight may not happen. One of the main match-ups that Arum publicly introduced was making Haney fight the winner of Josh Taylor-Teofimo Lopez for the WBO title. With Lopez coming out the victor, now may finally be the time for Lopez and Haney to settle their beef.
