Farmer Closer Than Ever To His Goals
“Failure will never overtake you if your determination to succeed is strong enough”
This quote may be more fitting for Tevin Farmer than anybody else in boxing. From the time we are kids we are taught the we can accomplish anything we want in life as long as we are willing to work hard at it and boxing isn’t immune to this philosophy. In fact all the talent in the world will never translate in a fight unless you’re willing to put in the work at the gym. The Philadelphia native is living proof that hard work can take you far as long as you believe in yourself. Life teaches us that nothing comes easy, what separates some from others is the fact that you can pick yourself up and keep pushing forward.
Farmer started his career with a record of 7 wins 4 losses and on his way to being a high end tough journeyman. With no manager or promoter he could easily have quit. But the young man kept going, dedicating himself to the sport and working on his craft. Here’s a fighter that loss his pro debut and is now on a 18 fight win streak, his last loss came against former world champion Jose Pedraza way back in 2012. You could say the phrase “it’s not how you start but how you finish that counts” applies to Farmer, who has shown tremendous improvement along with excellent defensive skills.
OnDecember 9th,Farmer will fight Kenichi Ogawa at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, NV for the vacant IBF Super Featherweight Championship belt on HBO’s Boxing After Dark series. It’s the same belt he was hoping to fight Gervonta Davis for but the former champion lost the belt on the scale in his last fight. Farmer is now one step closer to realizing his dream of becoming a world champion. Shall he win the IBF title don’t expect the young 27 yr old to stop there, as he knows staying at the top is just as hard as making it to the top, if not harder.
It’s hard not to root for the young man who hasn’t been deterred from pushing forward. Now he’s living proof that hard work pays off. Seems like he became a man on a mission and that makes him a winner in life!
It’s easy to give up, quit and go home but is more glorifying to take the hard road, take your lumps and become a man you can be proud of. They call him the American Idol and now he’s one step closer to living his American Dream!
