Tony Harrison Accuses Charlo of Doping!
Roughly two months after Tony “Super Bad” Harrison (28-3, 21 KO’s) lost his world title rematch to WBC world super welterweight champion Jermell “Iron Man” Charlo (33-1, 17 KO’s), the Detroit native has accused Charlo of foul play. Via his Instagram account, Harrison posted two video clips from their fight. In the short segments Charlo can be seen drinking water from a clear bottle and drinking from a green colored Gatorade bottle.
WAS CHARLO SIPPING ON SPECIAL SAUCE??
In the caption beneath, Super Bad flat out states that he believes that Iron Man subscribed to a level of in-ring treachery not seen since the infamous Panama Lewis scandal. While working as the chief second for Aaron Pryor versus Alexus Arguello in 1982, Lewis was thought to have shamelessly cheated.
Lewis was never formally caught for this incident. However, cameras catch him telling members of the corner crew to give him the water that he mixed instead of the water bottle that Pryor had been drinking form. Pryor would go on to stop Arguello in the very next round. Now, Harrison has levied the same charge upon Charlo.
Aside from saying that Charlo was definitely drinking something other than water, Harrison blamed the commission of a grievous error in allowing Charlo to drink from the bottle in question. As the rules stipulate, fighters can only consume water from clear bottles during the fight. So on that one issue, there is no question that that rule was not upheld.
It should also be noted that in his extensive caption below, Super Bad went out of his way to say that he believes that Iron Man’s lead trainer, Derick James, had nothing to do with the suspected cheating.
He says this theory is based upon the fact that James never touched the mysterious Gatorade bottle in question. However, by suggesting that Derrick James was consciously not dealing with the would-be tampered with water, it inherently implies that he was aware that something fishy was going on.
CHARLO BARKS BACK WITH FIRE!
After putting up his inflammatory post, it did not take long for Jermell Charlo to see and respond to the allegations. And just like Harrison, Charlo pulled zero punches. During his lengthy retort, found in the comments of the original post, Iron Man insisted that he won the contest fair and square before calling Harrison a bevy of bitches.
Charlo would also go on to label Harrison a fraud, called his woman a bitch and even went so far as to say he was knocked out in front of his kids and ‘bum ass’ of a mother – damn! Clearly there is no love lost between these two fighters!
In the immediate aftermath of their exciting rematch, both boxers expressed their willingness to submit to a rubber match. However, now with the blood as bad as ever been, it’s rather unlikely that they will be sitting down to negotiate anything anytime soon. Yet, it will be fun to see if this war of words was merely a onetime thing or something that will continue to rage on for the next several days.
