Eddie Hearn Announces June 10 for Johnson vs Scotney World Title Fight
As promised by Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn, the championship fight between IBF super bantamweight champion Cherneka Johnson (14-1, 6KO) and mandatory challenger Ellie Scotney (6-0) has a new date of June 10.
Boxing fans noticed the British promoter hinted that more big fights could also be included on the card.
DELAYED BUT NOT DENIED
This fight was originally part of the blockbuster showdown between undisputed champions Katie “KT” Taylor versus Chantelle “Il Capo” Cameron on May 20. However, Scotney sent social media into a frenzy after revealing that Cameron had the fight moved off the card.
This set off a domino effect as Cameron tried to explain what little she could due to a signed NDA [Non-Disclosure Agreement]. It turned out there is an issue between Il Capo and her former trainer Shane McGuigan, who trains Scotney. McGuigan was forced to respond and explain his side of the story.
During an interview with iFL TV, Hearn threw himself on the sword by taking a hefty portion of the blame for the situation. However, he was very candid about making sure Scotney wouldn’t lose the right to fight for the title and worked hard at coming up with another date.
Well, he kept his word, and as previously mentioned, the fight is still a go. Excited about the new date, Scotney took to social media with a message to the fans.
Although the three previously mentioned parties went through a lot during this ordeal, boxing fans should not ignore the effect this played on the champion, Cherneka Johnson, who was blindsided by the situation, as well.
Scotney earned the right to fight for the title after defeating Mary Romero in October 2022. This story got off to an extremely rocky start but managed to end on a positive note.
