Hector Luis Garcia Motivated to Best Tank Davis!

Up next for Hector Luis Garcia (16-0-3, 10 KOs) is by far the biggest fight of his career. On January 7, 2023, the reigning WBA junior lightweight champion will move up in weight to face WBA ‘regular’ lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis (27-0, 25 KOs).

Some may ask: why would Garcia take this fight when he could stay at 130 and defend that title? A guest on the Premier Boxing Champions podcast, the 31-year-old said the reason was quite a simple one.

(Translated from Spanish) “The reason I fight against Gervonta Davis now is because I love a good challenge. I’m all about trying to strive for good heights, and I’m making myself better, testing my limits. That’s precisely what I want to do, and that’s what motivates me right now to be able to go up against the best. I always want to fight the best, to be the best.”

READY TO SEIZE THE DAY

In Davis, Garcia is up against someone with solid boxing skills. But, Tank is a fighter renowned for his explosive power. The lightweight champ can take you out with one shot at any moment of a fight.

Garcia seems unfazed and unbothered that the upcoming fight is happening in Washington, DC, which is close to Davis’s hometown of Baltimore, Maryland. A well-schooled fighter in his own right, the man from the Dominican Republic is focused on doing whatever is necessary to win.

“The bottom line is that my experience will be the key for me to win. I feel like everything that I’ve done, everyone that I’ve faced so far has prepared me for this moment. And, when it comes down to it, the tools that I have in my arsenal will be enough to come out with my hand raised and shock the world against Gervonta Davis. Name the time and place; I’m going to be able to fight anybody, anytime.”

It has been a career-year for Garcia. In February 2022, he scored an upset, one-sided unanimous decision over previously unbeaten Chris Colbert. That was followed by an equally one-sided win over Roger Guitierrez to capture the junior lightweight title in August 2022.

Can Garcia carry the momentum and pull off what most consider a surprise? Garcia believes he’s capable of going into enemy territory and spoiling the apple cart.
