Is Hurd/Charlo The Fight?

Haymon reportedly wants unification bout

Richard Schaeffer, former CEO of Golden Boy Promotions and current figurehead of Ringstar, said at a post fight press conference that Al Haymon wants to make Jarret Hurd vs Jermell Charlo in a blockbuster super welterweight unification bout.

Hurd, who recently defeated Erislandy Lara, is somewhat tied up as the WBA just mandated a rematch between him and Lara. The first fight was a fan friendly affair that saw Hurd capture the WBA title and remain undefeated. This victory made Hurd the top champion of the division holding two of the four major titles.

However, it’s not clear if the rematch will take place given a chance of a match-up with Charlo and potentially capturing a third major title. As a unified champion Hurd could get an exception to face Charlo in a unification bout.

Charlo had been a knockout run since joining Trainer of the year Derrick James. Last night, the Texas native put his title on the line against former world champion Austin Trout. It was his third title defense although his knockout streak ended, he still got the victory via unanimous decision.

If the fight takes place this would bring us one step closer to an undisputed champion in the junior middleweight division. Both titlist have look good in their defenses and aren’t strangers to each other. 3KingsBoxing.com will monitor the situation and keep you updated as more information becomes available.
