Jason Moloney fights way to victory over Joshua Greer!
On August 14, two bantamweight ranked contenders will collide in a do or die must win fight. Joshua “Don’t Blink” Greer (22-2-2, 12KOs) will battle off against Jason Moloney (21-2, 18KOs).
Greer, who’s ranked number five in the WBO and IBF will look to get his first win since October 2019. He defeated Antonio Nieves by unanimous decision. Since that fight, he’s struggled badly losing in somewhat of a shocker to Mike Plania as well as settling for a disappointing draw with Edwin Rodriguez.
Moloney is coming off a knockout loss in his second world title opportunity against Japanese sensation and unified bantamweight champion Naoya Inoue in 2020. He also loss to former IBF bantamweight champion Emmanuel Rodriguez by split decision in 2018. The Australian is ranked number ten by the IBF, number six by the WBC and number nine by the WBA.
FIGHTING TO STAY RELEVANT
Knowing this fight is a must win, Greer came out fighting as so. In the opening couple of rounds, the Chicago native would come forward looking to make his Australian counterpart fight his fight. Ripping shots to the body and landing right hands would give Greer a confidence boost. However, Moloney would start to find a rhythm in the third and fourth rounds where he would land some thudding left hooks and right hands that stopped his adversary in his tracks.
By the middle of the bout, it was clear that Moloney had worked himself back into the fight thanks to his effective jab. The jab would not only set up his left hook and hard right hand, it would also start to swell the right eye of Greer. The American seemed to be losing his confidence with each passing round.
Although, Greer would scrap his way back in the latter part of the fight after upping his activity and punch output. However it would be too little too late.
After ten rounds, Moloney would be declared the winner by way of a unanimous decision. The scores read 98-92×2 and 96-94. The win is sure to improve his ranking as he hopes to get a third shot at a title. As for Greer, the once promising fighter suffers yet another setback. It’ll be interesting to see where he goes from here.
