Jones vs Carranza Rematch Produces No Winner

Fighting in a more controlled manner, IBF junior middleweight champion Oshae Jones (9-0-1, 3KO) retains the title as the rematch against Elia Carranza (11-2-1, 3KO) ends in a draw. There is a chance a trilogy may take place since the rematch failed to produce a winner.

In the early rounds, Carranza came on strong with an all-out attack that put Jones in defensive mode. However, her success was short-lived as the champion quickly turned things around.

Jones went to work behind a strong jab, and she started landing the left hand at ease. In the middle rounds, she showed tremendous patience and mixed up the attack with combination shots.

Yet, down the stretch, Carranza came on strong, landing decent shots, taking advantage of Jones staying on the ropes. When the final bell sounded, the fight ended in a draw.

Jones, obviously upset, claimed she wants to move on. Yet, Carranza wants to do a trilogy. In this author’s opinion, Jones did enough to get the win, but she should have stayed away from the ropes in the final rounds.

Furthermore, a trilogy isn’t out of the question since the titles are tied up in a unification featuring champions Chantelle Cameron and Mikaela Mayer. In will be interesting to see what the top brace at MVP Promotions decide is the best course of action.
