Jack Catterall Claims Victory In Josh Taylor Rematch
In a highly entertaining junior welterweight contest, Jack “El Gato” Catterall (29-1, 13 KOs) came away with a unanimous decision (117-111, 117-111, 116-113) over Josh “The Tartan Tornado” Taylor (19-2, 13 KOs) in front of a boisterous Direct Arena in Leeds, England.
This fight was a tale of two halves. It was all Catterall during the first six rounds. El Gato was boxing very well and controlling the action with his right jab and timely combination punching.
But at the midway mark, Taylor began to rally. The former undisputed junior welterweight champion began to increase the pressure and got home with solid power punches to the head and body. After nine rounds, Catterall appeared to be losing steam.
But in the championship rounds, Catterall gathered himself and showed determination and grit. He stunned Taylor with a hard left square on the jaw with eighty seconds to go in round eleven. It was that moment that sealed the deal.
After the fight, Taylor felt he won by a close margin and called for a trilogy. Catterall said he’s ready to move on and has his eye on a world title fight.
