A Budding Rivalry Emerges Between Keyshawn Davis & Floyd Schofield

Things are starting to heat up between lightweight prospects Floyd “Kid Austin” Schofield (12-0, 10 KOs) and Keyshawn “The Businessman” Davis (7-0, 5 KOs).

The roots of this began with Schofield. Following a ten-round unanimous decision win over Daniel Rojas in October 2022, the 20-year-old called himself the top prospect at 135 and mentioned Davis as an opponent he would love to face.

THE JUMP-OFF

Davis is not amused at being called out. Feeling he’s the top young gun in the division, the 23-year-old took to social media and left a message for his lightweight contemporary.

Most pundits agree that Schofield and Davis are talented young fighters on the rise. Their physical ability is evident to those who have seen them in action. Schofield is arguably the prized prospect in the Golden Boy Promotions stable. The same can be said when it comes to Davis and Top Rank.

LONG-TERM POSSIBILITY

The back-and-forth would be resolved by fighting each other. However, don’t expect that to happen anytime soon. Golden Boy and Top Rank see their fighters as future world champions if they fulfill their potential. From a business standpoint, it would not make sense right now.

Nevertheless, Schofield and Davis have their eyes on one another. You can bet Golden Boy is aware of Davis, and Top Rank knows about Schofield. Their trash-talk now could emerge into an eventual fight. Should both men continue to develop, a showdown between the two is a possibility down the road for big stakes at 135 or even 140lbs.
