Keyshawn Davis Calls Out Frank Martin Following Dominant KO Victory
In a stacked lightweight division, rising prospect Keyshawn “The Businessman” Davis (8-0, 6KO) and top contender Frank “The Ghost” Martin (17-0, 12KO) are on a collision course. Moreover, Davis has publicly thrown down the gauntlet, making it clear he wants to fight Martin.
It all started a few weeks ago when unified welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr suggested that his protégé, Martin, fight two-division champion Shakur Stevenson. He also took a shot at Davis in the process. This set off a chain reaction between Davis and Martin that caught the attention of the boxing community.
KEYSHAWN DAVIS CALLS OUT FRANK MARTIN
On April 8, Davis scored a dominant ninth-round knockout over recent victim Anthony Yigit. During the post-fight interview, he did not hesitate going after Martin for a fight.
“Hey, for that other southpaw on the other side of the street, this is an example for you, but I probably can do you a little earlier than that. You and Errol [Spence] keep saying this, that, and the third, I want to fight. But y’all calling out other fighters, why is that? I want to fight you . . . if you want to fight, let me know because I want to fight.”
The Ghost was paying close attention to the fight, and his response was short.
As good as all this sounded, the reality is this fight won’t happen anytime soon because Martin could be next in line for a title, shot. He is ranked #2 by the WBA and holds a spot inside the top 10 by the other governing sanctioning bodies. Davis is ranked #14 and #10 by the IBF and WBO.
In addition, both fighters are viewed as the future of the division. So it’s safe to bet they will probably fight when a championship is at stake, making the fight more lucrative.
