Finally, Sergey Kovalev and Anthony Yarde are ready to get in the ring!

Well it seems that the long, drawn out negotiations between WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey “The Krusher” Kovalev (33-3-1, 28 KO’s) and Anthony Yarde (18-0, 17 KO’s) are coming to end.

The Krusher’s promoter Kathy Duva, of Main Events, shed a bit of new informative light on the situation in a recent interview granted to WorldBoxingNews.net. In the piece Duva reveals that both parties have agreed to all terms of the contract thereby avoiding any need of a purse bid.

“The Yarde negotiations are moving forward between the promoter in Russia, RCC, and Queensberry – who represents Yarde. I heard from both sides yesterday they have come to terms on all of the contract provisions.”

Several months ago, the WBO sanctioning body named Yarde as Kovalev’s mandatory challenger and a fight was expected to be announced fairly quickly. However, this proved not to be the case.

The most popular theory about the delay revolved around the destructive Russian puncher’s mounting legal problems. It was common thought that his courtroom headaches were blurring the way to finalizing the fight. This is also why it’s believed the fight is being staged in Russia and not in the states.

Despite these prolonged talks and imminent litigation issues, the Krusher has the potential to end the year on a very high note. Going into the fight with the London born boxer, Kovalev would undoubtedly be the favorite to win.

If successful, the champion could potentially cash in on an unexpected late year prizefight with Mexican cash cow Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (52-1-2, 35 KO’s). In an eyebrow raising turn of events, Alvarez brazenly stated that he’d love to jump up in weight to face the Krusher in his light heavyweight division.

Duva Is Open To This Option!

“Canelo’s interest in jumping all the way up to light heavyweight to challenge for a historic world title in a fourth weight class against a monster puncher like Sergey Kovalev puts that particular fight into another class entirely.

“So who wouldn’t want to watch it?

“Sergey is a legendary warrior in his own right. He is well known to boxing fans all over the world and has never, ever backed down from a challenge. In my opinion, this fight has the potential to turn into one of the classics, casting Canelo in the mold of greats like Leonard, Duran, Hearns, Whitaker, Chavez and DeLaHoya.

“All of them sought out bigger and riskier challenges as their careers progressed. They were not satisfied to remain in one division that they could easily dominate.”
