Liam Paro Could Face Arnold Barboza Jr In Australia Thanks To Matchroom
The WBO has revealed the purse bid results for the showdown between top junior welterweight contenders Arnold Barboza Jr (28-0, 10KO) and Liam “The Prodigy” Paro (23-0, 14KO) goes to Matchroom Boxing.
3kingsboxing.com reported that the WBO had ordered the purse bid in an effort to speed up the process of making the fight happen. The winner will be next in line for a title shot against the victor between WBO champion Josh Taylor and Teofimo Lopez on June 10.
In 2021, Paro signed to fight under the Matchroom Boxing umbrella following a narrow victory over Yomar Alamo. Pleased to be part of the team, the Aussie took to social media excited about the idea of a world title shot within reach.
Some boxing fans are familiar with Barboza Jr, as he was on the hunt to get a fight with Lopez in 2022. In addition, he was actively seeking to get a title shot against WBC champion Regis Prograis.
WHERE WILL THE FIGHT TAKE PLACE?
Matchroom Boxing was happy to have won the purse bid. A date and location for the WBO title eliminator will come soon.
The WBO provided some dates and locations in the United States. Yet, there is a very good chance the fight will be in Paro’s home country of Australia. He has built a solid fanbase and has traveled outside his country to fight only once. Also, from a financial standpoint, the fight would be a hit as fans would come out in droves, especially given a world title shot awaits the winner.
The boxing community now waits for the official announcement of where and when the fight takes place. Make no mistake – both men will give it their all with so much on the line.
