Erickson Lubin Plans to School Jesus Ramos on Fight Night

An intriguing all-southpaw junior middleweight clash occurs on September 30 as former world title challenger Erickson “The Hammer” Lubin (25-2, 18 KOs) will face Jesus Ramos (20-0, 16 KOs) in Las Vegas, Nevada. Lubin believes his experience will be the key to victory over his 22-year-old opponent.

ROLE REVERSAL

At age 27, Lubin views this bout with a bit of irony. In December 2017, a then 22-year-old Lubin faced then-WBC junior middleweight champion Jermell Charlo, who was 27 years old at the time. It was a disastrous night for Lubin, as he was knocked out in the opening round.

Plenty has transpired for Lubin since that nightmare performance against Charlo. The Hammer has had his share of highs and lows. But he feels that he’s stood the test of time and his best fighting days are ahead of him. Speaking to the media outlet FightHype, Lubin said he plans to use the lessons learned from the fight with Charlo in his upcoming contest with Ramos.

“Charlo was 27 years old when I fought him, and I was 22 years old. I’m 27 now, and he’s (Ramos) 22. So, I’m looking to go ahead and show him that he’s taking a step up a little too early.”

BRAINS OVER BRAWN

Ramos is a hard-hitter with good boxing skills. He believes his punching power will play a big role against Lubin, who has been knocked down multiple times and stopped twice in his career. However, for all of Ramos’s power and aggression, Lubin feels Ramos is lacking when it comes to boxing intelligence.

“I don’t think Ramos has that IQ yet. I think that’s going to be an advantage for myself. His IQ is not there. He’s tough, strong, he’s powerful and comes to fight. But in that boxing ring, every single round, you gotta be thinking; Every second, you gotta be thinking.”

Can Lubin use all he’s learned throughout his career to confuse and frustrate the hungry Ramos? It will all play out on September 30 in Las Vegas.
