Malik Scott Confirms Negotiations for Heavyweight Tournament in Saudi Arabia!
Word on the street of a four-person heavyweight tournament in the Middle East is more than talk, according to Malik Scott. 3kingsboxing.com reported talks are underway for two fights in the heavyweight division in December of this year featuring former WBC champion Deontay Wilder (43-2-1, 42 KOs), two-time unified champion Anthony Joshua (25-3, 22 KOs), reigning unified champion Oleksandr Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs) and current WBC champion Tyson Fury (33-0-1, 24 KOs). This is the latest on that situation.
MORE THAN JUST HEARSAY
Scott, the trainer of Wilder, has confirmed that those discussions have taken place. During an interview with iFL TV, Scott said the following:
“I’m on the inside of the meetings. Deontay has me sitting right next to him when we go in these meetings . . . What I can say is the things that people are hearing is not fibs. The negotiations have begun.”
“The negotiations is true. Everything is getting together. We’re going to see what happens. We’re gonna see what fighters really want to fight that’s at that level, and the ones that do, Deontay is going to knock out and become two-time heavyweight champion of the world.
I can say those rumors are true. Negotiations are going on, and big fights are going to be happening, not just with us but with a lot of the top fighters in the heavyweight division in Saudi Arabia.”
In this proposed tournament, one fight would be a matchup between Joshua and Wilder. The other fight would be a showdown between Usyk and Fury. The winner of those two fights would face each other for the undisputed championship in 2024.
It’s a monstrous development for the heavyweight division and for all of boxing. Saudi Arabia has invested heavily in the sport in the last few years. If what Scott says comes off and becomes a reality, it will be one of the largest events in the sporting world. Stay tuned to 3Kings Boxing for further updates.
