Yan Marcos Wins Decision Over Dwyke Flemmings Jr.

In a 154-pound showdown featuring two undefeated prospects, Yan Marcos (15-0, 10KO) picked up a split decision win against Dwyke Flemmings Jr. (11-1, 10KO). The undefeated Cuban may want to slow down before looking to crack the top ten.

This fight had everything: two undefeated, hard-punching fighters in their prime. In addition, both men tasted the canvas after receiving hard counter-shots. However, Marcos used the jab in the closing rounds to pull off the victory.

When wondering what is next for Marcos, in this author’s opinion, they shouldn’t look to fast-track the 25-year-old southpaw into the top ten just yet. Ranked #15 by the WBA, he has some polishing up to do first.

Marcos showed signs of brilliance, but he needs to stop trying to fight off the ropes. Furthermore, he has to use the jab more, especially with those fast hands. He did a good job of mixing up that attack, but he needs to learn how to close out rounds and prevent the opponent from making a comeback.

One bright note is that Marcos proved that he can overcome adversity. The Cuban has a solid future, but will need to tighten thing’s up.
