Fernando Martinez Plans To Look Better Than Ever Against Mandatory Jade Bornea

The mission is two-fold for reigning IBF junior bantamweight champion Fernando Martinez (15-0, 8 KOs) against mandatory challenger Jade Bornea (18-0, 12 KOs) on June 24. One, Martinez wants to successfully defend the title. Secondly, the defending champion has a burning desire to show the boxing world that he is one of the elite fighters in the division.

Martinez won the belt in February 2022 with a unanimous decision victory over Jerwin Ancajas. They re-matched in October 2022 with Martinez once again winning by unanimous decision.

PLENTY OF BRAVADO

Ancajas previously held the IBF title for five years. So in defeating Ancajas in back-to-back battles, Martinez’s confidence is through the roof. Speaking to RingTV, Martinez talked about how those victories are a sign of how good he is. As far as the 31-year-old from Argentina sees it, his name belongs in any discussion about the best at 115.

“I believe I am up there already . . . ready for the big fights. I am ready for the champions in the division and to unify.”

But before any talks of a possible unification match, he must overcome Bornea, who became the mandatory challenger with a third-round knockout over Mohammad Obbadi in January 2022.

Martinez vs Bornea will be shown live on Showtime on the undercard of a twelve-round bout between Carlos Adames and Julian Willams. Martinez looks forward to fighting on such a big platform. He plans to steal the show and thinks he will be too much for the mandatory challenger on fight night.

“I am going to demonstrate that I am at an even higher level now. I think my experience will shine in this fight.”
