Pablo Cesar Cano Defies the Odds with Solid Win Over Ochoa
Junior welterweight veteran fighter “El Demoledor” Pablo Cesar Cano (35-8-1, 25KO) is experiencing a noteworthy resurgence in his career, highlighted by his recent victory over Zachary Ochoa (21-4, 7KO) on October 4.
Cano is the type of fighter who often wins fights he’s expected to lose and loses fights that he should win. The Mexican boxer faced WBA welterweight champion Paul Malignaggi in 2012 and narrowly lost by split decision. In 2018, he surprised the boxing world with a win over undefeated prospect Ruslan Madiyev.
Capitalizing on that momentum, El Demoledor delivered a sensational first-round stoppage against multi-divisional champion Jorge Linares in a WBC junior welterweight title eliminator in 2019.

However, in 2021, he suffered a devastating second-round stoppage against one-time title challenger Danielito Zorrilla. After a long layoff that saw him fight once in 2022, Cano found himself in a do-or-die situation against Ochoa where he faced adversity, including a severe cut over his left eye.
In the sixth round, Cano landed a brutal right hand that sent Ochoa flat on his back. The referee had no choice but to stop the fight after Ochoa got up only to endure a barrage of unanswered shots.
This victory breathes new life into the Mexican fighter’s career and may even earn him a ranking in the top 15 of one of the four major sanctioning bodies. At 34 years old, his days of fighting for a world title may be behind him, but he continues to prove that he has some fight left and remains a solid test for anyone in the division.
