Caleb Plant believes ready to show the world he can beat Canelo Alvarez!
Unbeaten IBF Super Middleweight champion Caleb “Sweethands” Plant (21-0, 12KOs) finds himself potentially one fight away from reigning supreme as the unequivocal number one super middleweight in the world. To do that he will have to get by one of boxing’s best pound for pound fighters, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (56-1-2, 38KOs). While nothing is imminent, the plan is to soon start up talks for this intriguing undisputed clash that will likely take place in September.
Alvarez currently holds three of the four belts at 168. His most recent fight against Billy Joe Saunders (30-1, 14KOs) saw him gain the WBO title after he made the former British champion quit on his stool after eight rounds. The right uppercut would break the right orbital bone and cheek bone in three places. Plant’s most recent win came over former IBF 168 pound champion Caleb Truax (31-5-2, 19KOs) where he would win a very decisive unanimous decision, to make the third defense of his title.
WHAT DOES A POTENTIAL BOUT WITH ALVAREZ MEAN TO HIM?
“Even years ago I would tell Jordan, ‘you know if Canelo could beat Callum and Billy and get those two belts, and you know me and David fight and I can get that belt, I felt like we could have a crazy showdown.’ Unfortunately for some, they wasn’t able to make that happen, but I’ve stuck to my end of the bargain and I’ve held up my end of the deal. You know it’s getting closer and closer, it’s a fight that I want , I’ve said it in the past. It’s a fight I know that I can win.”
One thing is for sure, Plant lacks no confidence when it comes to how he feel he fares against the Mexican superstar, multi-weight champion. Luckily for him, his chances of securing a mega fight seem very high. Be as it is, nothing is done until everything is signed, sealed and delivered.
