Caleb Plant: “Comparing Me To Billy Saunders Is Almost Disrespectful!”

Caleb Plant remains confident as bout for undisputed looms

When WBA Super, WBO and WBC World Super Middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (56-1-2, 38 KO’s) defeated “Superb” Billy Joe Saunders, all attention shifted to one man. That man was IBF World Super Middleweight champion Caleb “Sweethands” Plant (21-0, 12 KO’s). Since the Mexican superstar stepped into the 168-pound division, he has openly said that he was there to pirate all the major belts. Now that he was acquired three of them, the last man standing is Plant. Directly following his fight with Saunders, Canelo reaffirmed his plans to go after Sweethands next. Thankfully, Plant is not flinching or backing up an inch.

In all actuality, Sweethands had made his desire to become the first undisputed super middleweight in history long before Canelo’s arrival. Therefore, for Plant, a showdown with the face of boxing for all the marbles is exactly what his dreams are made of. Naturally, he understands that he will be the underdog going into the bout, yet he could not care less. Regardless of what the fans, media or even the redhead believes, he has supreme confidence in his own abilities to win the day.

“He [Canelo] did what he was supposed to do, he got his hands raised and he is one step closer to what he thinks he is going to get.”

WATCH YA MOUTH!

With the Alvarez versus Saunders bouts officially in the books, Plant has heard numerous people compare him to Superb. On the one hand, the Tennessee native openly admits that he and Saunders both employ a slick style of fighting. On the other hand however, Sweethands views it as recklessly slanderous to say that they are the same type of fighter or human being.

“I think that people misconstrue the fact that maybe because me and Billy both have some slickness to our style that we’re the same fighter. And to me that’s almost disrespectful! Just the amount of discipline alone that I possess over him is disrespectful. The amount of discipline that I have, the amount of athletic ability that I have, the speed that I have. You know Billy, he is quick. Yeah, he has some quickness but he is not explosive. The height, the reach, the boxing ability, the boxing IQ, I hit harder than him, I mean the list goes on and on. So Just because we have some slickness to our style, don’t misconstrue that we are the same boxer or even the same type of man.”

Clearly the IBF champ believes he is heads and shoulders above Saunders! In the end though, we will have to wait to see what transpires when he and Alvarez get in the ring together. Regardless of how it ended, or what the judges were looking at, Saunders was definitely holding his own with Canelo. So it remains to be seen if Caleb Plant can display this separation in skill and ability, or even do as well as the UK import. If he can make good on his word, then the boxing world should be in for one entertaining treat. Conversely, if he cannot live up to his forecast, then Sweethands is in for one awful bitter night of disappointment! In either scenario, 3kingsboxing will be there to report the news.
