Caleb Plant On Building A Legacy In Boxing
IBF world Super Middleweight champion Caleb Plant (20-0, 12) has never been one shy about speaking on other fighters or what he wants out of the sport. He feels it’s about building and creating a legacy for himself that will stand the test of time.
BIG DREAMS FOR “SWEETHANDS”
During an interview with Fight Hype, Plant gave some insight into how he wants to be remembered.
“That’s the goal, I want to live forever. I’ve been around a lot of people who didn’t get to live that long. So, I want my name to live forever in this sport, it’s important to me.
I’ve dedicated and sacrificed my whole life to this sport, I love it, I love it. So If I keep on the same path that I am now, hopefully, that’ll live forever.”
The champ feels he’s ascending in his career. He sights the progression from the time he defeated Jose Uzcategui to win the title in January 2019 to his two subsequent world title defenses against Mike Lee on July 19 and against Vicent Feigenbutz in January 2020 as a testament that he’s reaching his prime.
Plant cites a disciplined lifestyle outside of the ring, which includes no drinking and partying, no smoking, and keeping his weight down in-between fights, as well as gaining experience in the ring for his improvement.
Of course, it’s one thing to talk about going down as one of the best and being remembered among boxing circles for time in memoriam. The other part of that includes garnering the big fights and performing when the time arises in order for him to make his proclamation come true.
With the likes of bitter rival and WBC Super Middleweight champion David Benavidez, WBA “Super” world Super Middleweight champion, former two-time middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs, as well as WBA “Regular” World Super Middleweight champion “Canelo Alvarez”, the 27-year-old from Nashville, Tennessee will not have to look far and wide to find opponents that will make his dream a reality.
