Natasha Jonas vs Lauren Price Looks Promising for 2024
At welterweight, the options are plenty bountiful for newly crowned WBA champion Lauren Price (7-0, 1 KO). A potential matchup is a unification battle with IBF titleholder Natasha Jonas (15-2-1, 9 KOs). It’s a fight that the handlers of Price believe will eventually take place.
Price captured the title with a ninth-round technical decision victory over Jessica “CasKILLA” McCaskill on May 11 in Cardiff, England. CasKILLA had no answers for the fast and elusive Price who landed combination after combination. It was a dominant performance.
After the contest, Price, her trainer, and promoter Ben Shalom answered questions for the boxing press. Price said she was excited about what could happen down the road:
“I believe this is just the start. I want to come back here and defend my belt, and be in massive fights. In the 147 division, there’s great fights out there for me. I want to go all the way.”

The focus of the press quickly turned into a possible fight between Jonas and Price. Shalom said that the fight was a definite possibility:
“I think it’s a huge fight. I do believe it will happen. Whether it’s next or not, we’ll see. We’ll have to speak to both of them. Both are great champions.”

A FIGHT THAT HAS PLENTY OF VALUE
Jonas has made it clear that she wants a big payday before retiring at the end of this year. The IBF champion was hoping to engage in a rematch with former unified junior lightweight champion Mikaela Mayer. But that fight has hit a bump in the road during negotiations.
Given Jonas’s current plight, a battle with Price would be viable. The two welterweight champions currently fight for Boxxer. Price has been under the spotlight since her amateur days, and the local boxing pundits in England believe she will be a carrier of women’s boxing for years to come. Jonas is one of the greatest female boxers in British women’s boxing history.
A Jonas versus Price unification showdown is a high marquee. For Jonas, that could result in the big-money match she sorely wants. If Shalom has his way, it could take place by the end of this year.
