Claressa Shields: “What’s the Holdup Lady Champ?!”
Well it seems like the potential fight between undisputed middleweight and unified junior middleweight champion Claressa “T-Rex” Shields (10-0, 2 KO’s) and the former face of women’s boxing Laila “She Bee Stingin” Ali (24-0, 21 KO’s) will just not go away!
Following a pair of high profile interviews, the two fistic minded female recently engaged in a very public war of words. Naturally both thought that if they ever mixed it up in the ring they would the one to walk away victorious.
Raising the steaks a bit, not only did Ali assure that she would win, she was adamant that she would prevail by way of knockout. However, having been out of the ring for thirteen years, Ali stated that it would take an awfully big sum of money to entice her back into the squared-circle. She Bee Stingin said it would take something to the tune of 5 to 10 million dollars to do the trick.
THE MONEY IS THERE!
In the latest chapter of this would be mega-bout, Shields jumped down in her Jermaine Dupri bag and let the former champ know that money ain’t a thing! After taking to her social media while munching on a salad, T-Rex let it be known that Ali was the real meal that she was after.
More importantly, she insisted the money that Ali would require to make the fight happen was no longer an issue.
“Listen here, the money is there! Five million to the loser, ten million to the winner. I’m going to be the winner! Somebody already has reached out to Laila Ali and her team okay. Fuck somebody, my manager! I cannot disclose the person who wants to put up the 15 million for this fight, but the 15 million is there.
“We been waiting on Laila Ali to respond if she want to fight or not.
“That’s what we waiting on. So people coming to my page ‘oh Claressa, oh!’ It aint about me, I cannot force her to get in the ring with me, it’s about ‘oh now she motivated’ huh? Now I’m a good fighter.
“Now I’m a worthy opponent. Well let’s go then. What’s the holdup lady champ?
“…and we can do it at 168lbs big mama! Because clearly I’m ready!”
THE HUNGER IS REAL
Now that the money no longer seems to be a tangible hurdle preventing this clash, and Shields is back barking at full blast, it will be very interesting to see how Laila Ali responds! Let just hope that we don’t have long to wait to see what that response is!
