Soto Withdraws From Josh Taylor Fight, Replacement

Soto out Campos in

In what can only be described as disappointing news for boxing fans, and Light Welterweight contender, Josh Taylor’s in particular. Former World Champion Humberto Soto has withdrawn from their scheduled bout, due to take place on March 3rdat the SSE Hydro Arena, Glasgow, Scotland.

But fear not, you will still see the promising contender Taylor in the ring, with Winston Campos (30-3-5) taking his place.

“It came as a bit of a shock but these things happen in boxing,” said Taylor.

“I wish Humberto Soto all the best in his recovery but now I’m one hundred percent focused on defending my WBC Silver title against Winston Campos on March 3rd. I’d like to thank my team for finding a replacement at this late stage and although Campos represents a different challenge, being a rangy southpaw, I’m very confident that I can put on a career best performance next weekend at the SSE Hydro.”

Barry McGuigan, Taylor’s promoter has said that Soto has withdrawn due to a cut that has been suffered in training.

Whilst Soto would prove to be Taylor’s biggest test yet, Campos provides an entirely different, but equally difficult test. Interestingly, both men are Southpaws and he meets a Campos that is certainly in the form of his life. Whilst Campos has lost five fights, he has not lost since losing to Ismael Barroso back in 2013, reeling off a fourteen fight win streak since then.

The bout will add to an already stacked March 3rdacross the globe. But from a domestic perspective this fight, which will be aired on Channel 5 will go head to head with the return of Kell Brook and his entry into the light middleweight division.
