Subriel Matias to Fight Ergashev on November 4 in Las Vegas
In June 2023, 3kingsboxing.com reported that talks were underway for a matchup between the reigning IBF junior welterweight champion Subriel “El Orgullo de Maternillo” Matias (19-1, 19 KOs) and top challenger Shohjahon Ergashev (23-0, 20 KOs). Here’s the latest update on when and where that bout will occur.
Word on the street is that they will fight on November 4. According to Latino news outlet El Caballero Del Boxeo, Las Vegas, Nevada is the leading destination location, with the bout likely to air on Showtime.
Matias won the vacant IBF title with a fifth-round stoppage over Jeremais Ponce on February 25. Ergashev is currently ranked third by the IBF at 140. His last outing was a fifth-round stoppage over Angel Martinez Hernandez in August 2022.
THE INGREDIENTS FOR AN EXPLOSIVE MATCHUP
A contest between Matias and Ergashev would feature two of the hardest punchers in the junior welterweight division. Matias has a seek-and-destroy mindset in the ring. The pride of Fajardo, Puerto Rico applies constant pressure and wants to hurt his opponents with every punch.
Ergashev is a talented southpaw who is no slouch in the power department. The native of Uzbekistan has excellent boxing skills and underrated hand speed. In observing Ergashev on film, he’s also a fighter with a sizable mean streak. Stay tuned to 3Kings Boxing for further updates.
