Dillian Whyte is now expected to return July 13 instead of April 20

Heavyweight contender Dillian Whyte will make his 2019 ring debut July 13 in London. Originally, April 20 was set for his return after negotiations failed with unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua for a April 13 rematch.

Shortly after, Whyte turned his attention to WBC #4 ranked contender Dominic Breazeale. The winner of this fight would name the TRUE mandatory for Wilder while the latter battled Tyson Fury in a rematch according to the WBC.

However in a recent turn of events, Fury’s signing with Top Rank/ESPN derailed plans of a rematch. As a result, Wilder is now looking at defending his title against Breazeale. In the meantime, Whyte moved his return date up in order to be ready for the winner of the proposed aforementioned bout.

Additionally, Eddie Hearn hopes that after Whyte fights in July, he’ll be the mandatory for the title.

So who will he fight? It may be possible the challenger will not be much of a threat in order to preserve Whyte’s #1 ranking.

  1. It’s a bit of lengthy layoff, but he had a active 2018. Wouldn’t mind seeing him in there with the Nigerian kid from Poland who fought Breazeale, I forget his name. Maybe Charles Martin.
