Adrien Broner Adamant About Facing Regis Prograis

Adrien “The Problem” Broner (35-4-1, 24 KOs) is on a quest to win another world title. The multi-divisional world champion badly wants a fight with reigning WBC champion Regis “Rougarou” Prograis (29-1, 24 KOs).

After a lengthy layoff and signing with a new promoter in Don King, Broner returned to the ring on June 10 and scored an easy ten-round victory over Bill Hutchinson. Following the whitewashing over Hutchinson, Broner announced that his goal is to win the WBC junior welterweight strap.

Rougarou is coming off a competitive split-decision victory over Danielito Zorilla on June 17. Some fans on social media and on boxing message boards felt that the defending champion was fortunate to have had his hand raised in victory. In response to the fight, Broner posted the following on social media:

STILL A TOPIC OF DISCUSSION

Some may dismiss the comments from Broner as senseless trash-talk and hilarity from a fighter who they consider to be a has-been. But the 34-year-old says that the days of being undisciplined are over, and he’s a changed man in and out of the ring.

Whatever you think of Broner the fighter, what you can’t take away from him is that he has a way with words. The man knows how to draw attention.

Prograis didn’t look great in his win over Zorilla. The WBC champion has admitted that it was not his best performance. Broner watched Prograis closely and probably saw some weakness he could exploit in Rougarou.

The reality is that a fight between Prograis is not happening anytime soon. Most fans would make Prograis a prohibitive favorite in a matchup with Broner. However, Broner knows the business of the sport and is an expert at creating hype for himself.

If The Problem has overcome his demons, he understands that if he continues to win and do so impressively, he’s right back in the mix, which means a fight with Prograis is not outside the realm of possibility.
