Adrien Broner Targeting a WBC Title and Regis Prograis Wants the Fight

Following a two-year layoff, Adrien “The Problem” Broner (35-4-1, 24 KOs) returned to the ring and captured an easy unanimous decision win over Bill “Hutch” Hutchinson at Miami Casino in Miami, Florida. Following the victory, a hyped-up Broner said he’s on the hunt for a world title with an eye on getting his hands on the WBC junior welterweight belt.

“I want the WBC. I love the WBC; it’s green, baby. That stands for World Broner’s Championship.”

PAYING CLOSE ATTENTION

Regis “Rougarou” Prograis (28-1, 24 KOs) is currently the WBC junior welterweight champion. Doing live commentary on Broner – Hutchinson on social media, the junior welterweight champion posted the following in response to what Broner had to say about wanting the WBC belt:

Say what you want about Broner, the multiple-time world champion continues to be one of the more talked-about fighters in the sport. His previous fight was a disputed decision win over Jovanie Santiago in February 2021. But despite the absence, Broner was a constant topic of discussion in boxing media spaces. A lightning rod in and out of the ring, the 34-year-old draws a crowd and will have folks that want to see him in the ring.

The pride of Cincinnati, Ohio is currently unranked by the major sanctioning bodies at 140. But if Broner can summon up a few more wins and looks impressive in the process, he will start to create a buzz and climb him back in the world rankings.

Rougarou is no fool and understands this reality. Prograis is in the final stages of preparation for his upcoming title defense against Danielito Zorilla on June 17. It was noteworthy that Prograis made time to opine on Broner and his win.

Prograis and Broner had their share of verbal exchanges over the years. You best believe that privately, Prograis hopes Broner gets the momentum going and works his way into world title contention.

Never forget, this is about business. If the right circumstances play out, a Prograis-Broner fight for the WBC title could be in play down the line.
