Canelo vs Krusher bout resurrected!

It appears unified middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev are close to making a deal that would have them meet in October. Previously, talks between the two camps fell apart due to money concerns. However, that appears to be resolved.

It’ll be interesting to see how this deal plays out. Canelo will be moving up two weight divisions to contend for Kovalev’s WBO title. He has fought in multiple catch-weight fights to date. Given his track record, there could be a weight stipulation applied in order for negotiations to continue.

Should this deal see the light of day, that brings the future of the IBF middleweight title into doubtful territory. Alvarez has also been in negotiations with IBF #1 contender Sergey Devervyanchenko for a mandatory bout.

He most likely would have to relinquish his title. This might provide enough incentive for Gennady Golovkin to take the fight with Deveryanchenko if he doesn’t get a fight with WBO junior middleweight champion Jaime Munguia first.

There’s also Kovalev’s upcoming fight with his mandatory, Anthony Yarde. A move to face the Mexican champion would require Yarde’s approval with the incentive being “step-aside” money.

There are a lot of moving parts to this story and 3kingsboxing.com will monitor it going forward.
