Andrade Pays Respect to the Task of Besting David Benavidez
Despite his glaringly obvious talent, two-division champion Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade (32-0, 19 KO’s) has never been able to sign the type of major fights he craves. This is why many are viewing his unofficial duel with two-time super middleweight champion David “The Mexican Monster” Benavidez (27-0, 23 KO’s) as the biggest test of his professional career. Unsurprisingly, Andrade is of the same mindset.
While speaking with Fight Hype, Boo Boo gave The Mexican Monster his flowers in regards to how difficult the impending rumble should be.
“I’m 35 years old, as you know, but I haven’t been in any crazy wars. So there is still a lot of fight in me. And this is the fight that you’re going to be able to see what I am made of aside from just the skillful part.”
GOOD BUT NOT BETTER!
Goin a step further, Andrade even went so far as to say that a win over the high-volume bruiser should be tantamount to flat-out winning a world title.
“People get up for Michael Jordan, you feel what I am saying, and a lot of the people I fight get up to fight me! Not saying I don’t, I do, but in this case, it’s time for me to get up. So it’s going to be a different ball game . . . just beating David Benavidez should be a world championship in itself, at the end of the day, because he is no push around. He’s a real guy, people will respect him.”
Yet, like all boxers worth their fighting trunks, Boo Boo does not feel that Benavidez is some insurmountable hurdle that he can’t overcome. In reality, Andrade can’t see a category that The Mexican Monster surpasses him in.
“I can match it [Benavidez’s volume/power]. At the end of the day, he’s not like a one-punch knockout artist! He does put his punches together and I am happy for David Benavidez for him working as hard as has to be able to be in this position because boxing is not easy! And at the end of the day, good, because now we can make a great fight!”
Given the outright talent and determination of both men, this scrap should be one entertaining affair. Let’s just hope that everything gets over the line and a fight date and venue are formally announced in the very near future.
