Andy Cruz Looking For His Biggest Win Over Keyshawn Davis Yet
Just around the corner on February 14, WBO lightweight champion Denys Berinchyk (19-0, 9 KO’s) will face the swiftly rising fighter Keyshawn “The Businessman” Davis (12-0, 8 KO’s). And as it often is in the sport, even before the clang of the first bell, the sharks are already circling. This is precisely why long-time Davis rival Andy Cruz (4-0, 2 KO’s) will be watching the fight with keen interest.
Cruz and Davis have a lengthy and well-documented history due to Cruz defeating The Businessman four times in the amateurs. On the last occasion, the Cuban would win and collect an Olympic gold medal in the process. This substantial track record of success is exactly why Cruz told YSM Sports Media that he is locked in on the fight and hopes that Davis prevails.
”I think my son is going to progress a lot! He is going to do well. I hope that he does get a strap, that way I can take it from him! I will be watching the fight. How are you not going to watch your son fight?!”
BACK IN ACTION
To his credit, The Businessman navigated a sensational 2024. Within that calendar year, Davis fought and defeated Jose Pedraza, Miguel Madueno and Gustavo Lemos. With each consecutive win, Davis’s stock and recognizability by the public had a sharp increase. Now, ranked #1 (WBO), #2 (WBC) and #3 (IBF), The Businessman is chomping at the bit for his shot at a world title.
Technically speaking, Berinchyk had a successful 2024 as well. The Ukrainian fighter toppled Emanuel Navarrete to pluck up the then vacant WBO title. Unfortunately though, his battle with Navarrete was his only prizefight of the year. In fact, you’d have to go back to 2021 to find the same time Berinchyk fought twice in one year. Therefore it will be interesting to see how the WBO champion holds his own and if ring rust plays any major factor in the overall outcome.
