Alycia Baumgardner Signs a Multi-Fight Deal With Matchroom

No one may have made a bigger splash in 2021 than Alycia “The Bomb” Baumgardner (11-1, 7 KOs). The 27-year-old exploded on the world stage with a stunning fourth-round stoppage win over Terri Harper in November of 2021 to win the WBC women’s world junior lightweight title.

Though an underdog, Baumgardner was full of confidence. She predicted she would bring the pain and leave the ring as the new champ. Her words prove to be prophetic. Her performance was a dominant one, overpowering Harper from beginning to end.

The fruits of her hard labor are now paying dividends outside the ring. Matchroom Boxing announced they signed Baumgardner to a multi-fight deal. In a press release from the promotional company, the WBC women’s champ at 130 pounds reflected on what has been a tremendous year and what she hopes to be an even bigger 2022.

MAKING HER GOALS CLEAR

“2021 was definitely a breakthrough year for me. I had a great experience working with Matchroom to win the WBC and IBO World titles in the UK. Signing this deal with them puts me in a position to achieve my next goal of becoming undisputed at 130 pounds. Being on top is to stay on top, and continue being the athlete I know I am.

Have no doubt, I am the top dog in my weight class, and it’s only a matter of time before I have all the belts to prove it. Nobody is going to stand in my way. I’ve worked very hard to stay and make my mark. I will continue making history in the sport of boxing.”

Baumgardner has a goal of becoming the women’s undisputed champion at 130. She’s had a long-standing beef with unified IBF/WBO women’s world junior lightweight champion Mikaela Mayer. The two ladies have engaged in plenty of trash-talking on social media. Boxing fans hope a unification match is made between them to prove who’s the best in the division.
